In 1894 Mucha established himself with the commission of a poster for the actress Sarah Bernardt. As a result he received an exclusive contract which ran for 6 years. During this time he created not only posters, but was involved on theater decorations and costumes.
During 1890 Mucha held his first one-man show in Paris. 448 works were on display.
During 1904 and 1921 Mucha frequented the United States where he received commission and also taught at the Art Academies in Chicago and New York.
When the German Nazis occupied Czechoslovakia in 1939 he was arrested and interrogated by the Gestapo. Shortly after he died in Prague
